Illustration Jump Starts
You've
come to the right place if you're asking the question: what should
I draw? Or if you just want to work on something other than your
current drawing or painting. Below are some ideas to jump start
the illustration process. I'll be adding more in the future, and
if you have a favorite illustration jump start you'd like to share,
let me know and I'll try to include it here as an idea by you.
1.
An
art director once told me about images for a portfolio, is that
if you don't know what to draw, you could take scenes from classic
stories and fairy tales to illustrate, so an editor or art director
could see what your take would be on something like Goldilocks,
or The Three Little Pigs.
2.
Something that I've started doing is to write a story first, then
illustrate it. That way I have lots of images to draw, and they
are appropriate for my children's book portfolio.
3.
If you don't write, you could think of funny things that happened
when you were a kid and try to illustrate those scenes (using
the real kids, or making them into different kids, or even animals).
